WalkingDartmoor is perfect for walking whether you want to spend all day or just take a short walk. Views are magnificent and there are always animals of various kinds to add to the interest.
We can advise about where to walk but there are some well known Official Trails such as the Two Moors Way which goes from Ivybridge to Lynmouth in North Devon crossing both Dartmoor and Exmoor. The Dartmoor Way runs for 90 miles and is good for walking and cycling as is the West Devon Way which will take you from Plymouth to Okehampton. The Templer Way traverses the 18 miles between Haytor on Dartmoor and Teignmouth on the south coast and traces the route by which granite was exported from Dartmoor via the Haytor Granite Tramway and the Stover Canal.
The famous Tarka Trail is a 180 mile circular walk from Okehampton to North Devon and back along the Tarka Line railway. If you want the easy ride you can catch this train from Yeoford which is only a few miles from Holly Farm.
Look for more information at Discover Dartmoor and other links on our Links page.Whether you prefer cycling along peaceful lanes or tackling more strenous off-road routes, with over 500 miles of paths and 200 square miles of open moorland, Dartmoor has something for you.
The Devon County Council website has full information on all of cycling for everyone, whether you're looking for traffic-free rambles in the country or challenging mountain biking. The site covers everything from cycle routes to train companies' policies on cycle carriage.
The Dartmoor National Park Authority has also produced a cycling leaflet (pdf) available online, and further maps and guides are listed on the BBC Devon Great Outdoors site.
Horse RidingOur livery clients enjoy pleasant riding round country lanes and bridleways - the great benefit of being on horse back is that you can see the wonderful views over the typically high "Devon banks" and hedges that enclose many of our lanes. Dartmoor itself with miles of wonderful riding is only a short box trip away or can be ridden by the adventurous (and fit!).
For those interested in competition there are a number of good venues within reach.
For our visitors pony trekking on Dartmoor is a great experience - we can advise about this and make the arrangements.
